A fire broke out on Tuesday in dry grass and wild vegetation in the “Atsa” area, between the communities of Evrychou and Koutrafas in Nicosia District. The area is adjacent to a ready-mix concrete production plant.
According to a statement by the Fire Service, a call about the fire was received at 18:59. The Evrychou and Peristerona Rural Fire Stations responded with three fire engines, while a vehicle from the Department of Forests also attended the scene.
The fire was brought under control at 01:46 after burning two hectares of dry grass and wild vegetation. A makeshift metal structure was also affected; it contained stored quantities of timber and other materials.
The fire was contained in time and the plant was not placed at risk. The causes of the fire are under investigation.
Meanwhile, from 06:00 on 8 September 2026 until 06:00 on 9 September 2026, the Fire Service responded to 39 calls for assistance: 13 fires, 22 special services and 4 false calls.
