Yemeni rebel movement Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis after the surname of its leaders’ family and aligned with Iran, announced that it had struck various targets in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
According to the announcement, the targets included facilities belonging to oil giant ARAMCO. The movement described the attacks as retaliation for Saudi airstrikes in Yemen.
“Drones and missiles from Yemen are hammering the Saudi enemy,” Ansar Allah said via Telegram. It subsequently added that the targets included the international airport in Abha, King Khalid Air Base, and ARAMCO facilities in Abha and Jizan.
Earlier, the rebels’ health authorities had reported that 14 people had been killed or wounded in the kingdom’s airstrikes in northwestern Yemen. Riyadh did not comment on the reports.
The Houthis also said that a prison was among the facilities hit. According to the movement, many prisoners were taken to hospital, while others remained trapped in the rubble.
The movement’s military affairs spokesperson, Yahya Sarea, said that the “Saudi attack against Yemen” would not go unanswered.
