Ten people were killed on Monday in a pile-up involving a truck with a trailer and ten other vehicles in Tizi Ouzou, east of Algiers, according to Algeria’s Civil Protection agency.
Another ten people were injured in the crash, which occurred on a national road about 100 kilometres from the capital.
The Civil Protection agency published photographic and other visual material from the scene of the crash on Facebook.
The latest tragedy occurred a few weeks after a bus overturned in late July in the province of Boumerdes, approximately 50 kilometres east of Algiers. Twenty-eight people were killed in that accident.
In total, 3,838 people were killed and more than 37,000 injured in road crashes and accidents in Algeria in 2025, according to the country’s road safety authority.
The same authority attributes more than 96% of road crashes to human factors, particularly carelessness, lack of vigilance, excessive speed, dangerous overtaking and other hazardous manoeuvres.
